Web server hosting

People are often baffled by the amount of terminology surrounding the internet and set-up of a website, one of the most misunderstood terms being ‘web server hosting‘.

Basically, web server hosting is a term used to describe a company that is acting as a host to a website, in order for it to be active 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days per year.  This company will also be connected to the internet on a permanent base.

It is extremely important for the company who conducts your web server hosting to be reliable and have a stable internet connection. The last thing that you want is for customers to start a transaction on your website and not be able to complete it due to your website going off line.

Web server hosting is, in essence, a subscription service. These are either run for a contract period in which the website will pay a monthly fee for an agreed period of time, or it would be a on month to month basis. It cannot be a once-off fee as this is a service that runs from month to month, and as soon as it stops, the website will no longer be available for public viewing.

A good web server hosting company will be host to a number of websites. Each computer, or server, will be home to various websites, and the more websites the company hosts, the more computers, or servers, it will need.
